. obama would like to have spending end up at 23%. romney and ryan both want it down at 20%. so there's a clear difference, and they all agree on where it should go. what gets interesting is as you dig into the detail of what gets cut, and you'll see some very, i think, fascinating differences among these guys. so on social security, as you heard president obama say in the last debate, the three guys are actually in the same place. they want to spend the same amount on social security in the next ten years. when you get to medicare, romney and ryan are in the same place, but romney actually a as you also heard him say, wants to repeal the $716 billion. it's actually $900 billion of cuts. he would spend more on medicare than ryan or obama. and then you have obamacare. >> let me ask you really quickly. if anybody has heard, let me know. has mitt romney said what he wants to do with the $716 billion? >> essentially it would be used to get his spending down to that 20% level because you're going to see in a minute, he has a bunch of other places he wants to spend money. >> spend the $716

. mitt romney holds rallies in both ohio and iowa. and i want to take another look at those two polls that everyone is talking about this morning. they seem to paint different pictures of this race. the pew research center gives mitt romney a four-point lead over president obama. 49% to 45%. that survey did include more likely voters who identify themselves as republicans. however, the latest gallup tracking poll has president obama leading mitt romney 50% to 45%. this poll does include voters who were surveyed before the presidential debate which most voters say romney won though interestingly enough, it showed movement toward obama yesterday. all right. hard to keep track of. there's a lot going on here. cnn political reporter peter hamby joins us live from washington. please, peter, make sense of this for us. >> okay. these are the first two real credible polls we've seen since the debate. the bottom line here is there's movement in both toward mitt romney. you're right. the gallup poll had about three days of sampling before the debate that showed obama winning. after the debate,

in differentiating what he and romney would do in both iran and afghanistan than from what the administration is going now, most of his critiques were about things that occurred earlier than what will occur in the next year and on domestic issues i think probably as smart as ryan is, they have a problem on this tax question, because the fact of the matter is they haven't identified a single loophole. those will be voting issues, i am not sure. two other points. two crosscurrents here, charlie, one thing joe biden did tonight he put the middle class issue back on the agenda, it was basically taken off the table because of obama's pitiful performance last week and i think that helps the democrats if obama can capitalize on it, secondly the debate next fuse is a different format, it is a town hall and i think that makes it more difficult to criticize the other guy, so i think that makes the test a little bit harder for the president than just simply to come back from denver. >> rose:. >> charlie -- >> rose: yes. and then we go to mark. go ahead. >> on the point about the middle class joe biden i
